About Us

Alex Green

I have been working in and around the veterinary industry for the past 15 years.

I took a brief break to work in London in the high-end retail sector where I worked in customer service and logistics. This has enabled me to bring key skills for streamlining workload and key service level metrics into the industry. I have a strong passion for service and I believe, with the right team and the right mindset every business can succeed to levels they had never imagined. Service however is not just for customers. With a service-based team, we can look to help each other, the client and in turn, the animals we are there to treat.

A strong team will lead to better service, which can mean more workload without additional staff or adding value to each transaction through increase income.

I have worked at a few different locations, worked on the development, design and completion for the building of a hospital.  I visited a number of different styles of practice and developed techniques for planning and change that can be adapted and implemented into every practice.

I have worked as a patient care assistant, receptionist, manager and director. When I came back from London I was working out how we could implement the new information I had been gathering and how we could use all of these new skills I had acquired. I made A LOT of mistakes, but this is what makes us so effective as a practice. I know what does work, and what really doesn’t. When our practice manger passed away I became the active managing director responsible for all aspects of the business. In 18 months, I was able to increase the team size, take on a new contract for additional work, reduce the hours staff were working and add a pay rise for all staff members. We then went from a 0.3% profit margin to 8%.

The power of patience, planning, consistency and knowledge of the team dynamics have led our business to new heights. Don’t think we have stopped planning but the rest is for the future!
Working with staff I can identify potential hurdles the team face on the ground and work out how to create solutions that could be used throughout the business.

We truly value people’s time, honesty and trust. These are the core values that we believe in. If you are willing to put your trust in us, I know we can deliver a service you have never had before that could get your business to that level you have always dreamed of.

I bought my practice at a ‘knockdown’ price in 1986 as a mothballed, very old-fashioned business where the previous incumbent had died 6 months earlier. Like most vets, I was totally ignorant about business and how to make it succeed. I naively thought (if I thought about it at all!) that it would largely take care of itself if I worked hard.

Over the years I survived the 2008 bank crash by the skin of my teeth, I overspent on a branch that I didn’t do my due diligence on and lost a lot of money, I also employed a friend to be practice manager instead of someone with the right qualifications.

One thing I did get right was maintaining a forward thinking, learning attitude to the clinical side of practice. I am not a specialist in anything but I pride myself on being a good general practitioner. I strongly believe in having a strong educated support team (care assistants, nurses, receptionists and appropriate management) and encouraging full use of all their skills.

We made some tough decisions and did a lot of restructuring of every aspect of the business including designing and building a new hospital. Since then we have created an efficient, profitable practice.
